Over recess week and week 8, we (Group 2 of NM488D: Goh Pei Fang, Jasmine Moh, Neo Shi Yi, Raphael Rios, Tan Boon May, Tan Xin Han) interviewed motorcycle accident victim Norman, motorcyclist Jerry, Racing World Ambassador May, and also conducted an email interview with the Traffic Police. Due to the nature of our topic, we used multiple cameras such as the Sony A7sii, Canon 550D and a GoPro camera to capture footage of both the interviewees, racing gear and moving vehicles on the road. The main audio equipment used was a Lavalier lapel microphone and the Zoom H6, as these were sufficient for the interviews as well as voiceovers.
First up was 27-year-old Norman. We met him on 27 February, at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) after he just finished his physiotherapy. He had been in an accident just a few weeks before and was still recovering. His case was rather peculiar as he had no recollection of how he got into the accident. He added that most of his motorcyclist friends who “had crashed before” were mentally scared as they felt the pain of the accident. However, as he had no idea how he crashed, he seemed rather unnerved about the accident. Nevertheless, he felt fortunate to have donned protective riding gears that day or he might not have lived to tell the tale.

We structured our featurette to bring forward the point that riding gears are necessary despite not being mandatory. We made a contrast by interviewing riders who did and did not wear protective riding gears. While the reason that Jerry (who did not wear gear) was valid (large financial cost), we also gave a balanced view by bringing in tips provided by the traffic police.

Our script was constantly evolving based on the responses of the interviewees, and we learnt to be flexible and adaptive to the responses in the interviews and editing phase. All in all, we wanted to put across the point that motorcycling is a dangerous activity, and coming together during the editing phase to discuss and refine the script was especially helpful in illuminating this.

With that, we present to you group 2's featurette! Enjoy! :D
