The Parkour Perspective

Trespassing, climbing roofs and hanging from great heights, is this really the entirety of Parkour?

For our final project, our group (Group 1: Karuna, Lynette, Rachel ,Ting Wei, Vernice) decided to uncover what the Parkour scene in Singapore is really like, beyond just how it is being portrayed in the media.

We started off by contacting Singapore’s official Parkour group (Parkour Singapore) and were invited to join their monthly jam to try out Parkour for ourselves. One of our group members, Karuna, tried her hand at doing some Parkour moves to get an insider perspective of what it is like to be part of the Parkour community.

We filmed with 2 sets of Fujifilm XT2s (23mm and 35mm lenses) to get various camera angles of our interviewees and Parkour stunts. Due to the dynamic nature of Parkour, we used a stabiliser attached to one of the cameras to ensure that we got steady shots of the stunts even while moving around.

We recorded audio using three different channels:
  1. Boom Mic to capture environmental and overall sound for all shots
  2. Lapel Mic to during interviews
  3. RODE Mic attached to one of the cameras as backup

Over the course of production, we learnt that Parkour is much more than just a physical activity; Parkour encompasses many mental aspects as well, such as overcoming fears and staying resilient.

Our short documentary aims to uncover these hidden aspects of Parkour. Do stay tuned to this page for our video coming soon! (We will update this space once the video is uploaded on Youtube).
