Hello everyone! This is Group 2 of NM488D once again! (comprising Goh Pei Fang, Jasmine Moh, Neo Shi Yi, Raphael Rios, Tan Boon May, Tan Xin Han)
For our short documentary, we will feature the story and the ongoing journey of an up-and-coming YouTuber, actor and film-maker in Singapore!
Could you guess which Singaporean Youtuber is our group is embarking to do a short documentary on?
Hint: He is not only good at acting, directing, drawing... but he is also very good-looking! ;)
His name starts with J

Yes! It is Jaze Phua, the co-founder and creative director of JUO Productions. His YouTube channel boasts of 40583 subscribers at the moment, and his popular videos have reached a sizable viewership of 800k views.
During our first session with Jaze on 30th March 2018, we visited his house to get to know him better before the interview. He kindly showed us his report books and the portfolio that paved the way into a polytechnic for him. As his father was around, we also managed to seize this opportunity to interview him too. We wanted to find out how his father feels about film-making as a career, the decisions Jaze had made up to this point, as well as his experience of raising Jaze.
We also managed to get B-rolls of his achievement board, his film awards and other artistic creations as possible (He created an Iron-man sculpture out of tin cans. How neat is that!).
During our second session with Jaze on 31st March 2018, we headed to his office to interview him for our short-documentary.
Jaze pulled together a few crates to form this makeshift stool for him to sit on during the interview.
We were really intrigued by the innovative D-I-Y items produced by JUO Productions to save filming costs as well as to make the settings as realistic as possible!
To ensure that we do not compromise on sound quality during such disruptions, we actually asked Jaze to repeat his lines several times. Fortunately, as a veteran director/actor who was accustomed to such incidents happening, Jaze remained poised and patient despite such disruptions and he didn't mind repeating his lines!
On top of that, we also managed interview his film crew, Jordan and Jerry who also happen to be the co-founders of JUO Productions. We discovered that they each specialized in different areas - for instance, Jerry's niche lies in filming, Jaze's niche lies in animation, while Joden's niche lies in business management.
After reviewing all the filming clips that we have gathered, we realized we still have certain gaps to make our documentary's narrative more compelling and complete. Some of the shots taken were a bit shaky and unnatural as well.
As such, we asked Jaze for a day of reshooting on 7th April 2018 again.
Thankfully, we were able to get better video footage compared to the previous sessions! We have also learnt a lot on how to vary the different shooting angles to make a more compelling narrative.
With that, we will be meeting tomorrow for our very first edit.
Do stay tuned as we will be unveiling our final short documentary on 17th April!
