Have
you heard of competitive eating? Do you know what competitive eating is about? If
you’re a casual big eater, is competitive eating for you? These are just some
of the many questions for competitive eating, a new and upcoming sport in
Singapore.
In
our short documentary, CeNsationalMoments will try our best to cover these queries
about competitive eating. For a start, the production team attempted various local
competitive eating challenges to provide our perspective about the
sport.
First up, the entire production team challenged ourselves to the popular SamYang Spicy Noodle (x2 spicy level) as a mini challenge. How did the team fare?

(You can watch the full challenge video at our Facebook Page: @CeNsationalMoments)
Seems like the girls are not so good at it haha! These instant noodles are supposed to be twice as spicy as the original fire noodles, but is nothing compared to the next challenge the team tried!
Challenge 2: Sunset Grill and Pub Spicy Wings
Peggy and Hai En challenged themselves one of the popular type of competitive eating, spicy challenge. Now, this is the real deal. We could smell the spice from across the table!
They surprised the rest of us by managing to finish all the buffalo wings! Here's a sneak peek of hai en splitting fire upon eating those fire wings during the challenge HAHAHA
Kudos to both of them for managing to finish the challenge! But they explained that its not an easy task at all..
"You feel your tongue burning, then you feel your tongue getting more and more numb"
"I've no idea how competitor eaters complete in spicy challenges so often, my stomach feels like its burning, I think I'm gonna get a stomachache tomorrow"
Thankfully, both of them didn't get stomachache! Do competitive eaters alter their diet after every challenge especially after a spicy challenge? We will cover that in our documentary so do stay tuned!
Challenge 3: Monster Ramen
Peggy and Hai En again challenged themselves to the most common and popular type of competitive eating (sometimes known as speed eating) whereby participants compete against each other to consume large quantities of food in a short time period.
Here are some of the remarks by them before, during and after the challenge:
"I love ramen, but this really look so monstrous. I don't think I can finish it"
"Halfway I feel my stomach exploding"
"I scoop and scoop and the noodle is just never-ending"
"I feel like there need to be a strategy to how you eat it. You can't just consume it as and how you like to"
How do you think they fare? 1/3, 1/2 or have they completed the challenge successfully? We'll keep the results of how Peggy and Hai En fare till our documentary is out.
The attempts by the group provided a glimpse into how speed eating or competitive eating is definitely not easy and as simple as it looks. Competitive eaters have a strategy for how they consume the food, have a routine to follow, and we will reveal all these details through our interview with Zermatt Neo (a local competitive eater) in our next blog post and documentary, so stay tuned and follow our Facebook page (@CeNsationalMoments) for more updates!
